Survivalist sentenced for poaching

Associated Press

LANDER - A survivalist was given a jail sentence and had his hunting and fishing privileges revoked for 45 years because of numerous poaching incidents.

John T. Russell, 55, decided in 2003 to abandon society and live off the land near Union Pass in the Wind River Mountains, according to a Wyoming Game and Fish Department release.

He lived about 18 months near the South Fork of Fish Creek west of Dubois, surviving in large part on game he poached, according to investigators.

He should have done a little research. Some states will issue you substainance license to kill what you need to survive, within reason.

Well, he could have gotten enough tags to have enough meat for a year out there in Wyo...let's see...1 cow, 1 cow/calve, 1 gen bull tag, 1 gen deer, 2 doe tags, and 2 antelope doe tags...that's a lot of meat...he should have ponied up the tag fees and processed his meat in the fall.
