Has anyone ever been on the tahema pig hunt?It's put on by the dfg also.Kinda like the island hunt from below.I was just wondering.We put in for it .I live in bakersfield.So if We get drawn man it's a long drive. So I figured I would ask.Thanks

A friend went a couple years ago did'nt have any luck though.
He and I drove through a good part of the hunt area just before Xmas. Did'nt see any Hog sign but saw 51 deer.The area borders Dye Creek Preserve.I used to live in Redding.Hogs have been reported in the area for 20 or 30 years.Get a good map. I also applied to go.

Tehama Wildlife Area wild hog hunts earlier and longer in 2002.
REDDING--Wild pig hunting on the Department of Fish and Game's Tehama Wildlife Area east of Red Bluff will take place earlier and over a larger area next year. Instead of April-May weekend hunts south of Cottonwood Creek, the wildlife area's wild pig hunting will take place during eight weekends in February and March and will cover about two-thirds of the area's 44,000 acres south of Antelope Creek -- about double the acreage of past years.
The changes are designed to increase hunting opportunity by separating pig hunting from spring wild turkey hunting, according to the DFG. The separation will give turkey hunters free range of the entire 44,000 acres, rather than only the areas that were outside of the former pig hunting zone. New dates for the eight weekend hunts start Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 2-3, and run through Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24. Applications must reach the DFG's Region 1 office in Redding by 5 p.m. on Jan. 11. The drawing is Jan. 14.
To apply, hunters must submit a standard Postal Service postcard with their names, hunting license numbers, a mailing address and a daytime phone number to the DFG at 601 Locust Street, Redding, CA 96001. Up to four hunters may apply together on one postcard and may apply for only one of the eight weekends by writing a number from one to eight.
Fish and Game said it will draw and issue 30 free permits for each weekend hunt. There will be no first-come, first-served hunting for those permit holders who fail to show for a hunt, the agency said. The DFG said hunters have reported bagging 19, 2 and 11 wild pigs, respectively, during each of the past three hunting seasons at the Tehama Wildlife Area.
