I think it has been that way for more than a few years now... basically the numbers were really low... both on Tehama and Dye Creek... I think people were poaching off of Dye Creek by way of Tehama Wildlife Area... Few pigs + lots of poachers = no more hunting...
I drew G1 and the Wildlife Area two years ago, and also again this year (G1 - don't know about TWA yet). I saw some 6 month old pig sign (very little) on the absolute southernmost fence of the WA... not a whole lot though...
Believe me there are very few pigs on the north side of Dye Crk--I hunt there. Never heard about a poaching prob, but it all makes sense. I know the pig pop. has really dropped over the last 10 years--the growers down in the flats have been really been focusing on eradication, and DCP at one point had farmed out their pig hunts. Suprised that you hunt the south end of TWA as the northside of our lease on DCP is by far the worst area for deer, how did it go? PS we use to see pigs everyday deer hunting, now nobody sees them at all-Ive only seen a couple groupos in the last 6 yrs.
The hog hunting there has been special season/draw for at least six or seven years. I don't think they have the numbers to support a wide-open hunt anyway.
The poaching/eradication combination sounds like a likely reason for the short numbers, though.
