Hey superduty
yes there is a pig o rama this weekend
Hey Hoghunter
Thanks for the wish of good luck same to you and
all other JHOer's hunting this weekend. Everybody
have a safe and productive time in the field.
Okay DILPRXO,
Here goes, we hunted the southside and we went 1 for 3.
My bro-in-law shot a boar that went 250, my other bud didn't
even see a pig and myself the only 2 shooting opps I had were on
mama's with little ones. The best eating but can't take mama when
the little ones are still suckling. Beautiful weekend on the ranch. Saw
everything you could see from elk to baby rattlers. So ya all be careful
in May they will be out in force by then. Still green but starting to turn
brown in areas. Always enjoy my visits to the ranch.
Anyone else?
I was on the North side, hunted with GDT & met Hoghunter. I didn't see his (HH's) pig, but was happy to hear he scored.
GDT & I didn't see anything or much sign on the first two days. On Sunday, I got into some pigs at about 2:00 in the afternoon, but blew my big chance, so came up empty handed. What a disappointment.
One thing I have to say about Tejon - If you work it, you WILL see something! In addition to the pig I missed, We saw elk, deer, lots of turkeys, a fox, a bobcat, eagles, hawks, owls and lots more.
As usual, a great hunt. Good luck to all the JHO'ers on the "Ham Slam".
OK ,DILPRXO & Everyone Else
I will try to tell about our hunt. There were 8 of us in three trucks so we all took off different directions. Two went to Winters Ridge. I headed for the Cat Skills or Skins. No one saw much of anything. Sat. we all went to Winters Ridge south of Bad Name spring The Canyon that goes in to
Tunnis creek.By the way(Rocky_LC it wasn't me that got the hog but one in our party. First time Hog hunting. It was 132 # field dressed nice eating sized boar). He got it in that canyon about halfway
down.It wasn't to bad of a retrieve.Took about 2 hrs and 600 ft. of rope. We checked a few spots where we've seen hogs beforemad sme walks. Came up empty . Sat evening some watched the same place and saw 3 hogs 2 deeper in the cayon and 1 in the road that was shot at 3 times and missed.I and 2 buddies went over to Bronco Canyon .We saw 2 nice sized ones about 700 yds. away heading up hill tried to get in front off them. But it didn't work.
Sun. mourning we all went to Bronco canyon and Cordo Ridge.( One went home sat. mourning with a twisted knee). 1 guy saw one at the bottom. He was still 2/3 up or 1000 yds. + away.
I was still at my truck with it broke . The output shaft on the steering box snaped off . Had to stay an extra day to get a new steering box on monday. ended up with 1 out off 8.
Still had a great time and would do it again anytime. Great place to hunt and spend time with Friends.
Good Hunting Hoghunter
It was Good to meet Rocky_LC & gdt Didn't get to talk much but Glad to Meet them
Congrats to you guys for huntin' hard and takin' a few hogs.
I'm starting to see the trend. The jigs up. In my opinion, this is not the same hunt it was two years ago. I don't think that there are fewer hogs. I just think they have caught on. Trucks mean death.
In thinking about the May Ham Slam...
Last May was incredible. Some folks saw a bunch hogs and some didn't see any. We went three for three last May. We saw plenty. However, this past March, we went o-fer four, and we hunted real hard. We went deep, and we saw hogs deep. We just couldn't produce a shot opportunity.
In May, hopefully, the grass will be brown, and the hogs will have to root for the good stuff. If that's the case, they will start traveling farther from their beds, making it easier for us to get a visual.
It was much easier two years ago. It was nice knowing that you could always come home with a hog. However, I really enjoy hunting hard. I like the challenge. I'm taking it more seriously than I did a year ago. I'm treating this more like a hardcore deer hunt, rather than a walk in the park.
That's just been my experience, and this is just my opinion. I'm just looking forward to huntin' hard during the day, and suckin' down a bunch of beer at night with some JHO dogs.
Hey One Track
I think your right about the hogs " trucks mean death" .I think the season has alot to do with it to. We hunted the dec. PIG O RAMA and went 5 for 5 done sat. at 4:30 pm.
We hunted harder this time with only 1 in the bag(should have been 2 though). There's water & food everywhere. The hogs don't have to move much to feed & water
This was the 4th or 5th Pig o rama this year plus all the other hunts tejon has had so I think its pushed them into the harder places to get to. A little later in the year when there's not as much food & water they will move a little more.
Good Hunting Hoghunter
