SD, I haven't been up there yet this year, but I have been talking to Barbara (POR and Hog Hunting coordinator). She said the hogs are coming out of the woodwork, probably as a result of the great winter and spring we had. Based on the number of hogs we saw and took during the JHO hunt in June, I'm not surprised.
They haven't had that much foul weather yet, so the roads are still good too. You thinking about making the December POR?
A friend of mine has been deer hunting up there this year. He brought a hog skull over a couple of weeks ago to have it cleaned and said the place has more hogs than he's ever seen. Looks like it's going to be a banner year for hogs up there.
We were up in Sawmill Mt. last October and we saw the oak trees literally dripping with acorns at the branches. The acorn crop is very thick this year it should provide extremely abundant food for the pigs, deer and bear. Sawmill Mt. is outside the south border of Tejon Ranch across Quail Lake Rd. The animals must be getting fat and heavy. God Bless.
Rancho: I haven't replaced my 7mag. I probably won't get another mag until it's absolutely necessary. I'll be shooting "Old Faithful," my Rem BDL in -06. Can't wait. You all can start anticipating SDHNTR's colorful report upon our return. He is a connoisseur of prose.
Are we the only guys heading to Tejon in December?
