Hey all,

A comment in another thread reminded me of a couple of things I wanted to pass along.

First of all, there will only be one "Official" JHO hunt at Tejon next year. It'll be the second weekend in May, I think, but I'll have to check my paperwork to verify the dates. It will NOT be on Memorial Day weekend, for a change. The sign-ups and all that will be forthcoming, but of course it's way too early to be worrying about a May 2010 hunt right now. Let's get through the 2009 season first.

Second of all, those of you who have been regulars at Tejon remember Barbara Boeck. Barbara handled the wild pig hunts, and was our go-to person for all the years we've been running the JHO hunts. She's helped a lot of you guys out with your private hog hunts too. Anyway, despite the annual rumor that she was going to retire, she was always there.

Well, this summer, Barbara finally made the big jump and retired from Tejon Ranch. As happy as I am for her, she'll definitely be missed! If you've got a glass (or a coffee cup) hand, be sure and raise a toast to Barbara.

Maybe Lana will be back part time. Especially now that Mattie and Steven are expecting a baby.
Steven will be at Performance Archery this Saturday representing Tejon so stop by and congratulate him.

On a lighter note.... GOOD LUCK BARBARA :)

Mark, word has it Mattie will be our go-to for the long term. Not sure how they'll address the maternity leave.

Lana is gone as well. Maddie will handle all the responsibilities. That's a lot of work. She can handle it though. She's sharp.

Hey Brent, you gonna try to make it to this one? It's not the same with out you at the campfire/skinning rack. Good seeing you at the Escondido tournament, congrats on making it to the playoffs.

Sad to see Barbara retire she is a very sweet lady and she probably remembers almost everybodys first and last name no matter how many times you've met here 1 or 12. She always made the experience at tejon start off well. Will have a toast for her.

Is the JHO pig hunt a good opportunity for someone that has not hunted pig before? I am getting a spring access membership to Tejon and will be out there hunting varmints. I was planning on doing a guided hunt for my first pig, but not sure if I should wait for the JHO hunt.

If your getting the spring pass you will see more pigs than yotes at times. Just watch them and you'll learn all about them plus other members like me will be there this spring and can give you a crash course. Most guided pig hunts are more expensive than the 450 per pig for your spring pass. Also the biggest pigs are taken early in the year before the PORs get going after that it can be harder, just depends on the amount of rain we get this year.

The JHO hunt is a great time and a good place to learn about pig behavior but I would not be surprise if you put some time in at the ranch chasing pigs that you'll be one of the ones teaching the newbies. I've done 3 or 4 JHO hunts and it's great to hunt with the crew that usually shows up.

See you this spring!!

We had a guest speaker last night at our club meeting on the lead ban/condor zone, and he was talking about Tejon's plan to become a state park, after a small percentage of their lands gets approved for development. That would mean no more hunting there, at least for the public. Government hunters/trappers would be brought in to control or eliminate the critters. (This was just a small part of his discussion.)

Anyone know more about that?
