I know a few JHPers will be hunting the north side as well. Never been on the north side let alone a Pig-O-Rama. We have two rifle hunters and two bow hunters. What areas should we head too? Thanks, Matt

HEY m57jager,
They have a archery only area but I don't know if you can access it on a Pig O Rama. It's in Tejon canyon called Jacks pasture. Just about any where you want to go is ok for rifle as far as bows there should be some fair spots on Winters Ridge some of the brushy ravine's . It will be tough
anywhere for the archery guys. I'll be on the North side in a crewcab ford
if you see me up there I'll tell you what I've seen and where.
Good Luck Hoghunter

Thanks Hoghunter,

The archery guys will be in a white jeep cherokee with deer sticker on the left rear window and an american flag on the back. I'll be with my brother in a blue jeep cherokee with an american flag and jhp sticker on the back. Hope to see you up there.

M57 Jager:

I'm not familiar with the north side.

I've taken my bow (and rifle) three times on the Pig O Ramas, never to use the bow. I am usually there with a few rookie hunters, and my goal is to get them their hogs first. Then, I end up searching, high and low, on Sunday for my own hog. I sure dig it though. So, my past trips have not allowed me to concentrate on bowhunting.

With that said. I am toying with leaving my rifle at home in March. That would certainly force me to hunt with the bow. I think you can hunt any part of that ranch with a bow. You will just have to do it like the Dwight Schuhs, or Cameron Hanes of the world. Spot and Stalk. It's easy to spot hogs if you are diligent with the glass. Stalking a hog is not that tough. You have to be downwind, and extremely quiet. The first hog I shot at Tejon, rifle, I stalked from 1 mile to within 100 yards. The second, I stalked to within 10 yards and shot her with my 357 mag. A coulple others that I have encountered were very stalkable as well.

I did speak with a few archers last time I was there. They were unsuccessful. However, they were still-hunting most of the time, or sitting on a blind. If you have the hot scoop on exactly where the pigs are hanging out, a blind would be awesome. But, we are usually going in blind. Those hogs move to new areas, all the time. I really think that you have to stay up high, where you can see for miles, and glass. When you are down in the brush you can't see diddily. The hogs might only be 100 yards away and you will probably miss them. It's big country. The hogs will be out feeding in the morning and evenings, sometimes in mid day. They are soooo easy to spot. Just big black spots on the green hillside meadows.

Sure would be fun to stick one with a bow.
