Well starting to get a little excited about the Pig O Rama hunt this May. Even though I have never hunted the North side it will be a new adventure. I am also trying some new bullets. The Nosler non lead. If I remember right it's called the E tip. I will see if it does any better than the Barnes. Last year shot a hog two bullets in the boiler maker and that hog still ran 500 yards before he went down. I know hogs are tough but I was not very impress with the Barnes bullet. Will see how the 180 Nosler performs out of my 300 WBY. I will post some pic if I get lucky.

How far away were you when you shot that hog? I have shot several hogs with the Barnes 3x and haven't had one take more than a step or two after it hit them. I have a friend that shoots the e-tips and they seem just as good so you shouldn't have a problem with them. The blast from that 300 wby should be enough to scare them to death.

I have killed several hogs with the Barnes 3x bullet. Some hog went 8 feet and died and some went much farther. I shot this hog at 200 hundred yards plenty close for a kill shot. When I was skinning the hog one of the bullet went in at the shoulder and broke the shoulder and bounced off the other shoulder and exited out of the hip. Both shots were fatal but that hog went 500 yards before it stopped running. It tried to charge me but with two broken shoulders he wasn't going far. Put one right between the eyes and that was the end of that. I just can't figure out why the hog went that far with two well placed shots behind the shoulder. The only thing that I could think of is that the adrenaline was running full bore.

Regarding Barnes Bullets, has anyone had any luck with the 300 gr TSX bullets in 45-70? I'm getting ready for the Tejon POR. I've shot, but never hunted with them before. I've hunted with the Buffalo Bore 350gr JFNs and didn't think I'd need much expansion. The nose cavity on these TSXs look large enough to baptize a baby. I haven't the time to puncture wet newspaper or some such so anyone relating their results on hogs will be appreciated by me.
Thanks

My first year at tejon was before the lead ban and I smoked a nice sow at 200yds with a corelokt. The next year I shot a sow at 30yds with the barnes non tipped and it pretty much died on impact. the following year I shot another sow at 15yds with the Etip behind the ear and it dropped where I shot it, and last year I shot anohter sow at about 80yds with the etip and it oblitorated its spine and shoulder. shooting a 150gr 308. either will kill hogs. my gun groups etips better so I shoot those. can't wait.. I have a few more apps in so should be another great Tejon POR.

I checked some earlier threads on Barnes bullets from this Forum and found what I needed so please ignore my post from yesterday. Shoulda done that first: Doh!

jb229, thanks for the word on the e-tips. The other iron I want to bring is a Win Mod 88 in .308 so that helps. Question: If you "smoked a sow" from 200 yards, where did you find papers big enough to roll her in? Just kidding.

I am shooting the 165 grain tsx, in 7mm RM. The pig I shot through the front right elbow went down, and rolled to within 60 yards of the vehicle. When we opened her up, it had broken the leg at the elbow, then blown up the heart, and exited the other side of the ribcage. The hog took one hop, then just expired. That was at about 100 yards. In any case, I'm looking at going to the range for one more set of practice before the hunt on the 20th. My last trip, I was hitting within a foot at the 600 yard metal dinger at A Place to Shoot in Santa Clarita. I don't think I'll need to shoot at that distance, but I will be using a Range Finder.

I've shot may hogs with the 168gr and 180gr ttsx out of 300 wsm and 300 wby, and the 140 mrx out of the 270 wsm. all of they flopped over dead or stumbled a few yards. then again I reload my own stuff, and make sure the recipe is shooting dead on. there has been all kinds of back and forth about barnes and people basically just being pissed about having to use copper. most of them already knew the copper wasnt going to work well before they even fired a shot, and from what I remember the same guys all had factory ammo.

barnes bullets do the job. just make sure the load shoots well in your rifle well ahead of time, and then be confident in your equipment.
