Tejon Ranch

I hear a lot of talk about tejon ranch and their hunts, and I know they have boars since I have seen them early morning off of I-5, but my questions is how are the hunts? Have any of you guys been there and not bagged a boar? Whats their policy? I might sound stupid for asking, but I never been there or know of any whos gone. Thanks in advance for the info.

By the way, this summer while driving north on highway 33 past highway 166, I spoted to little pigglets run into think bushes, I waited to see if there would be a sow but didn't see a thing, man my heart was pounding.

I don't think Tejon generally provides 100% success, but it's some of your best odds anywhere for a "do it yourself" hog. I believe anyone who puts in the effort can be successful there over the course of a Pig-o-rama or Turner's Hunt, as long as the weather permits. It was dry and warm when I was there last year, but after driving some of the roads I'd imagine it's pretty scary if not downright nightmarish during the rainy season. That might put a damper on success by keeping hunters out of some of the back country.

Can't go wrong at Tejon. You will find a lot of info in the link above. In summary, Tejon has plenty of hogs. You can pay for a guided hunt and shoot one from the road. Or, you can join many of us at a Pig O Rama event, and have a blast. The POR is an event that Tejon provides about five times a year. For $300 buck you have 2 1/2 days to hunt, unguided, on an awesome 300,000 acre ranch. It's not a gimme, you will have to hunt, which makes it more fun anyway. They split the ranch into three parts, and allow 50 hunters on each part. There is plenty of room for everyone. And, they give a $500 prize for the biggest hog taken at each of the three areas.

I have been to three PORs. I would say that we enjoyed 100% success. However, on the third trip, I passed on three sows, in hopes of taking a nice boar. I didn't tag one. But, I had a blast and my buddies all got hogs, and I was happy.

Yeah, I'm curious on how these guys are gonna do..I'm sure they will wack a few hogs. I'm suppose to be there with them, but I'm moving in a week and moving cost has taken my hunting money away from me this month...oh well....More POR's to come

What is the per-day bag limit on a POR at Tejon and does that include room and board? For $300, if I could get two nice pigs, that would be a sweet deal. $150 per pig and I only live 3 hours from Tejon in San Diego.
Also hanging out with other JHP'ers for the weekend would be nice too!

POR limit is one per hunter. The $300 (plus $10/year insurance) cost basically covers access to the property. Most of us camp there, but there are some "reasonable" hotels down the road. The camping is on a nice flat, but there are no facilities. Plenty of room for a camper or RV if you have one, though.

One of the best parts of the trip is hanging with the JHP'ers. I haven't met one in person yet that wasn't a good guy and a good hunter.

There's also the Turner's hunts at the same place. Basically the same thing as the POR, but with room and board. I think they're around $550 for the weekend. With these hunts, they'll let you take another pig for an additional $200.

BTW, do the PORs at least have portable toilets?

I personally used one of the porto pots they had placed on the ranch. Also big roll aways for your trash......
