Hunters' work aids hungry

Texas hunters donated 90,713 pounds of venison to needy people through the annual Hunters for the Hungry program this year.

The venison used in the program is donated by hunters, who pay a tax-deductible processing fee to one of more than 100 meat processing plants that sign up as partners in the program.

The meat, which is ground and packaged in one-pound containers, is delivered to low-income families throughout the state. The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs is one of the program's largest sponsors.

This year's donations bested the amount donated in 2001 by 28 percent. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials said this year's donations amounted to 360,492 individual servings.

That is great. I always donate at least one deer a year to Hunters for the hungry here in TN. I haven't saw what our total was last year but I know it wasn't that much. That is wonderful keep up the good work gang down there in Texas.
