Texas Parks and Wildlife picks Toyota as official vehicle

Austin Business Journal

The Austin-based Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and its nonprofit partner, the Parks and Wildlife Foundation of Texas Inc., announced a sponsorship with Toyota Motor Corp. and its Texas dealers.

The sponsorship is the largest for a Texas Parks and Wildlife automotive sponsor, according to a state agency news release.

The sponsorship designates Toyota as the official vehicle of Texas Parks and Wildlife, meaning Toyota is the state agency's sole auto industry sponsor.

Toyota will underwrite a weekend of free entry to all Texas state parks during the Lone Star Legacy Weekend on Oct. 19 and 20; provide funding for Texas' free outdoors festival; and finance a promotion for free fishing trip packages while raising funds to boost public fishing access.

The sponsorship agreement runs through March 2003.

Texas Parks and Wildlife is the state agency responsible for state parks as well as fish and wildlife conservation. It operates 122 Texas state parks, 51 wildlife management areas and eight fish hatcheries.

Texas has 71 Toyota dealers. Japan-based Toyota [NYSE: TM] manufactures more than 1 million cars a year in North America.
