Planning a 1st Pig hunt in Texas, just north of Houston it sounds like. What kind of money am I looking at minus gettng there, permits, tags, license etc.. Type of gun used for pig hunting? Hear are the guns that I own, a H&R Handi rifle in 45-70, a Marlin GG in .450 Marlin, a 44 mag Ruger Redhawk, or 300 WBY Mag. Any suggestions on which one would be best would be great. I have never hunting pigs before just Deer and Elk.

Pretty much any gun you would use on Whitetail will work on pigs. As far as a licence, your gonna need to purchase a 5 day non-resident non-game license. That will allow you to hunt unlimited pigs as well as unlimited exotics and it costs $45.00. You can purchase that online at the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site. As far as the cost to hunt. That can be a wide range of prices depending who you hunt with and where you hunt. You say your hunting just North of Houston, so it sounds like you already know who your hunting with and where your hunting. Good luck. Hope this helps a little.

And welcome to JHO

You'll have a good time hunting hog out there... I my self am looking to do a hunt with SandJKennals with my SOG Recon Bowe.. Saving my pennies to go.. I was hoping to go this year but may have to wait.. Shane was only charging me $250.00 for the hunt.

Wow only 45 dollars, that's alot cheaper then I thought. I will be staying with a friend of a friends lives just outside of Houston. And Sportyg yes I am really looking foward to it, sounds like alot of fun, ever since my friend told me about it I have been reading alot about it.

Is it true they can and have attacked before? I haven't hunting anything that would attack me, granted I have hunted Elk in Bear country but have never seen a bear yet while hunting Elk, I use my 300 Wby Mag for elk and hoped if I ever saw and needed to shoot a bear in defense that my 300 was enough..

Yes they will charge if you are in their way of escape, otherwise most of the time(thank goodness!!!) their way of escape is away from us. Those Houston hogs are heavy(not necessarily big, but heavy) & you will be surprised how far(100 yds.) they run at top speed even after being hit in the shoulder with a 12 gauge slug. Just shoot straight & enjoy your hunt. They are good eating too. God Bless. larrysogla.
