Took a risky shot this am. Had to bend the barrel around a small tree. There were 4 hens on me and the gobbler behind them. I could'nt move so I tried the shot and missed. He ran, they ran and I shot again and missed. Tomorrow, I will get him tomorrow.

Got out before lite today, setup and began calling shortly after lite. I heard no gobblers on roost nor did any answer my calls. Freak'n windy today. A hen came in about 10 feet in front of me, I didn't see her. She was just the other side of a small cedar. I went to call again and she spooked and flewup just in front of me and went the other way. They must hang in the woods in the wind, I didn't see anything other than the hen.

It is windy this morning. Not sure where they go during the wind. Try a little later around 9-1 when the hens have left the toms. May have a little better luck getting him to come to you. We went out Monday and were beaten out by the hens. Saw some good toms struting, just couldn't get them close enough.

I'm feeling the same pain, H&W...

Jesse (yep ~ the main man, here) was in town, and showed up for a hunt. We hunted on 04/27, and we had 3 gobblers answering nearly every call we put out there.

Around 7am, a trespasser intercepted one of the Tom's coming to us. Then, at 7:30am, another (possibly the same trespasser?) hunter intercepted the 2nd Tom heading our way. A few minutes later, the 3rd gobbler shut up for the rest of the morning.

The entire hunt, we saw the grand total of 3 hens come out. Too bad they were all alone...

Around 10:30am, a couple of coyotes came, and started feeding on something dead in the field. They stuck around for awhile, so we ended the hunt. Too bad 'yote season isn't open yet...

So ~ it's Tom's - 3 Chairman - 0

Jesse stuck around for the rest of the afternoon. He had other obligations, so we didn't get to hunt anymore.

On Wednesday, the 28th, it was way too windy to even consider hunting. I just let the woods settle down for a day. Another friend came down on Wednesday night, for a hunt on Thursday morning. We got permission to hunt in a neighbors field (closer to the ridge & strutting zone), and we hunted until 1pm. We never heard as much as a yelp. Saw 1 hen, and that was it...

Now, with all this rain, I can't get out for awhile because of the mud.

Hopefully, I'll get to hunt again towards the end of the week - and maybe Saturday. I doubt I'll hunt Sunday ~ Mother's Day trumps any hunting plans...
