The herd bull had his cows near the road this evening so I was able to get some nice pics. He has about a dozen cows with him and two satelite bulls nearby. I can hear the bugling as I am typing this. Cool. Anyway, enjoy the pics.

Last one. I found another bull with three cows but they were far away.

Well, those sightings will be no more. DFG has moved the Tule Elk off the former Concord Naval Weapons station. They now live on the 70,000 acre Cache Creek wildlife area. It has been a sad week for me hearing the helicopter buzzing around helping round up the elk. I've had the privaledge of hearing the bugle evey Aug. from my house and of course I always enjoyed seeing them. Kind of made me feel like I was not in suburbia.

There were 38 elk on the base and three died during the round up. Two of stress related problems and one of a broken neck while being netted.

I guess the mountain lions up at Cache Creek will have some easy pickings for awhile. Those elk have been behing fence for almost 29 years now. Doubt they have had much prey/predator interation there.

Great picts. I watched the news during the round-up and one of the elk took a terrible tumble downhill.....I'm betting that's the one w/ the broken neck.

Yeah, some on our RMEF Chapter helped on that....On one hand, you hate to see it. On the other, it may increase a tag or two here and there......

The one that took the tumble on monday is not the one that broke its neck. That happened on the last day and it was a bull. Fish and Game has an outstanding record for successfull captures and release, best in the west.
