Well today was the opening day for Turkey season. When I got in the woods at 4:30 am. it was raining hard and the wind was blowing 15 mph and gusting to 20 mph and it was 45 degrees.. I didn't hear any gobbles on the roost so I set up my blind and set up decoys. Stayed there about 3 hrs calling every 15 to 20 min. I had 3 hens come up and check out my decoys but no gobblers. Once the rain let up I grabbed my decoys and started walking and calling.I did this until about 11:00 without hearing a bird. When I went back to get my blind I jumped a big gobbler about 50 yds from my blind. He took off flying and was out of site in a matter of seconds. Made me sick but thats Turkey hunting.

I had hoped you would have kept the wind in your neck of the woods TN.

I was working the night shift and slipped off an hour early to catch opening morning. The birds started hammering with in minutes after I was set up. I didn't have any gobblers close but I could hear roughly 8-10 in the distance. The wind really picked up suddenly and the temps dropped. The birds clammed up as the wind picked up. The wind broke the top out of a pine tree that the pine beetles destroyed about 40 yards from my set up. That's when I packed it in. I'll probably go back tomorrow afternoon to see if I can do anything with them. I wore em' out last spring in the eraly evenings.

I did score on a jake on Chuck Swan's management hunt Friday. Boy, does that 1 7/8 oz of Hevi Shot do a # on a turk's head! He fell like a sack of taters 37 long steps from me.

Congrats on the bird Spotty. Sunday was just as bad, it was snowing here and the wind was gusting to 25 mph. Didn't hear any gobblers but had three hens come check out my decoys. Maybe the weather will be better next weekend.
