Turner's Outdoorsman Tejon Ranch hog hunt success rate jumps in May.

Jim Matthews, ONS 5/26/04

Nine hunters bagged five hogs this past weekend hunting on the latest Turner's Outdoorsman Tejon Ranch non-guided hunt. It was the best success rate of the five hunts held so far this year.

"We're seeing a lot more pigs now," said Jack Ku, who hosts the hunts on the Tejon for Turner's "Everybody saw pigs and most of the guys had shots."

Ku said that the hunting had been tougher this year than last season, noting that weather, moon, and road conditions had worked against hunters until the most recent hunts. The hunt the May 14-16 weekend had four pigs taken by 11 hunters, and three of those hogs were trophy boars. Ku also said there was a Ham Slam event with around 50 hunters from JessesHunting.Com who shot 20 hogs over May 21-23 weekend.

Three Turner's hunts scheduled this season still have openings -- July 9-11, July 23-25, and August 6-8. Ku said the hunts in the summer are always some of the best because there is less pressure in the summer and the hogs are predictably coming to water sources each day.

The hunt series is run by Turner's Outdoorsman and the California Hog Hunter newsletter. For more information or updates on hunt availability, call the newsletter office at (909) 887-3444.
