Ever since my wife has got me involved in DSLR photography, i've taken an interest in photographing wildflowers in the desert. For two years i've wanted to see and photograph a "Desert Calico." I mentioned it to my buddy who studies mammals here in the desert. We went hiking last evening, and no sooner did he step out of his truck, he spotted my nemesis.

Little did I know, this plant is a dwarf. The total height for this plant is about two inches. The diameter was only about 2 1/2 inches. No wonder I never spotted it before.

Here is my attempt at a macro shot using a non macro lense.

A slightly overexposed (on the petal) Monkey Flower found during the same hike.
