I've gotten permission to turn an old cattle feeding station into a camp/cabin. The shell is there, and that's it. What would you guys like to have in camp.....?

Wood burning stove, overhead water tank, bbq pit, outhouse, and bed frames would be a good start.

  • A warm, dry place to sleep.
  • A warm, dry place to cook/eat/drink when the weather is too foul for a campfire.
  • A warm, dry place to pass on what we ate/drank without offending our fellow hunters or cluttering the area with toilet flowers.
Nice extras would be a gravity-fed water system for some running water. Once you have that, you may as well go ahead and run a hose through an inline water heater and have hot showers too.

A poker table. A mud room. A rack to hang wet jackets. A meat pole and a butcher table with flood lights.

Dang, didn't think about the gravity water or toilet, thanks fella's. I don't own the property, so I need to stay within some confines. There is an exploratory well hole dug that came up empty. It's quite deep, and with a little lime powder all I'd need is a little seat

As far as the Hooter's girls go, have you ever heard of a camp tr---?(rhyms with camp)

My cousin Bimbledean has always wanted to be a Hooters girl. She'd fit right in I think.

Sounds like a great setup Mike. When's the house warming/pig killing party

A good meat pole setup with a hand winch and gambrel that is lighted would be a great deal at a camp. A table for some butching is a great idea too.

Fear not, Gyopo...

A mud room is where you come into the house and stomp your feet to loosen up the mud on your boots, so it comes off better when you tromp through the kitchen and onto the living room carpet. It's a must in any hunter's house... although, in a pinch you can achieve the same results on the front porch.

A toilet flower is one of those lovely little paper flowers you'll find blooming at most trailheads and behind bushes in spots where people do their "business" in the woods. Some people tend to bury them too deep for passersby to see, but many considerately toss them right on top of the forest duff where they can blossom for all the world to enjoy.

Usually occurring in white, they can occasionally be spotted in pale pink, blue, or lovely print patterns. It must be noted, however, that when someone recommends stopping to smell the flowers, they are probably NOT talking about toilet flowers. You'll probably also want to choose something else for that special Valentine next month.

Oh.. and Jesse...

Mike, I am in the process of putting one together on my property up north. We put an outhouse together last year. It makes things more civil. I have four big shipping boxes that a bunch of us put together last summer. Two of them are going to be bunk houses with four or six bunks each. The other two are going to be connected and turned into a kitchen and dining area/poker room/drinking room/etc/etc.
Just behind the kitchen area, we erected a large super-strong shower house. I have a 300 gallon water tote on top of the shower and a on-demand water heater hanging on the side of it. The water will be piped into the shower and into the kitchen. So, we will have hot and cold running water in both.
This year, I will erect a skinning shed.
I plan to set up a bank of batteries with a solor powered charging system so that we can have some lights inside.
The spotlights outside is a good suggestion, I had not thought of those.
I also want to put up an eating area outside. It is always nicer to eat outside when it is really hot up there.

Outhouse. Has 3 inter-connected fifty gallon barrels buried under ground. By the time everything gets through the third barrel, it is pretty much water.
