Great site! I appreciate all those who contributed valuable info. After building a couple of game cameras, I was interested in purchasing an aqua vu underwater camera (until I looked at the price). Has anybody bought a commercial unit, or made an underwater viewing system? Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to assemble one, or would I be better off buying an off the shelf item?

Thanks

Yooper,

I had built one last summer, but I made the mistake of using a color camera. There are places on the internet where you can buy plans to buils one, but they are pretty simple. All you need is a good qualitly B&W CCD low LUX camera, and a good I.R. LED array sealed in a watertight enclosure, I used PVC pipe, o-rings, and a 1/4" plexiglass lens. I then connected a 60 ' cord to a 5.6" TFT flat monitor. Mine all fits into a sportsmans dry box and runs off a 12v gel cell rechargable battery. I am going to rebuild mine this summer with this camera.

Otherwise you can check out Lunkercam

who sells the kits to build your own.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

coyotebandit,

Thank you for your suggestions. I think I'll try to build one.
