I'm living in SLO for one more week and would like to try to hit the upper part of the Big Sandy Wildlife Area before I graduate and move.

I've hit the lower bit a few times and never had much luck and would like to try the upper bit for a change. I Looked on DFG website and only found directions to the lower bit so just trying to figure out how to get to the smaller upper part.

Would anyone mind sharing how to get to the upper part/where to park? I got a rough idea off google maps but still not completely certain. Normally I'd drive up and figure it out myself but with only one week of hunting left up here for me I'd rather spend time on the ground looking for birds than trying to figure out how to get to the place...

Also, are the boundaries as clearly marked as in the lower area also?

Thanks!!

The upper part is new to me, but I have the lower mapped. It's directly across the highway from Camp Roberts.

I've become pretty familiar with most of the lower part as well. Usually see a bird or two there but only had one trip where I've actually brought anything home with me.

It's nice having somewhere so close by to run up to for an hour or two and walk around with a shotgun.

Okay, the Lower would be down river at the confluence of the San Antonio and Salinas Rivers. The upper is the large parcel up river?

The top part has pull out off road to park and signs. I seem to remember Big Sandy was archery only area. I know Big Bubba Daddy and me only bowhunted the area. Don't recall any quail on top but I'm sure there are some around there. It was big ravines leading downslope to the river. There was a couple flat benches that would allow you to hunt there, most ended in a cliff overlooking the river.

Pete (BigBubbaDSaddy) about 10 years ago there about to shoot charging 500 punder. :big-grin-aqua:

It'd be nice if DFG would put a little effort into it and put the GPS numbers on the web page for people to at least get to the legal access to some of these places.

Check back later today. I will post my Recon Hunt, but I have to unlock it at the public Library. My network at home crashed.

Do any of you know if there's turkeys there? I've seen them on Camp Roberts, so they are in the area. Thanks,David
