Now, this may be a question from the bottom of the "what-if" barrel(way, way down in the bottom).  Would it be possible to use a 12v car battery for a power source( It would last for a long time I figure) and if so I guess you would have to step down the amperage.  Just a thought, maybe Brian and tinhorn could look into it (or not)???  my $0.02

It's been brought up.  It would work if your game camera runs off of 9-12v.  I would hate to carry it though the woods though.  I would just use a small one like a 12v  1.2 ah.  They are cheaper, and small enough to fit in your box.  Saving you another trip for the bigger 12v battery.   You would have to have the car battery off the ground so it doesn't loose it's charge.

Hi Drew,

A 12 volt batt would work ok,  you don't have to cut down amperage, electronic devices just pull what it wants too automatically but like TmKarren says, setting batt's on the ground will drain one pretty fast (marine battery box?)

If it's at a permanent location, could put a solar trickle charger on it too.
