I got my Utah Cow Elk tag from the Ute Indian Tribe in Ft. Duchesne in Febuary this year. They cost $350 plus a $5 app fee.

I think he said they had a 90% succes rate last year.

They must have a BIG herd.

Some fellow I knew when I lived in WA did the Ute Cow hunt every year. I was considering it and they suggested to hire one of the guides in town--he said you could find a local guide for about $100/day 5 years ago. They always tagged out in a day or two.

He also said they'd always get at least one flat tire...very sharp, rocky roads.

wmidbrook,

I was told the same thing by Mr. PaulC. He's gone a couple times and they always tag out.

The Abajo hunt is like shooting fish in a barrell. You will have to find out if they are still on the mountian and if they are you will need to come in from the Blanding side and you cannot miss them , they are everywhere. You will have a great time, but be prepared with chains and a good four wheel drive.
