I just booked an archery cow elk hunt with lone tree outfitters in Utah. 5 days of wall tents, dutch oven cooking and elk hunting in November. Absolute heaven. Check them out at lone tree outfitters

Dave, what's the cost for such a hunt...tried to find it at their website, but only saw a 3 day hunt...sounds like a good chance for a freezer full of meat. Best of luck

It's going to total out to about $1400 after airfair and such. I'm headed up Thanksgiving night and coming back the 29th. The deposit is $550 for a guarranteed landowner tag. Want to join me?

What Dave's moving to Utah? When did that happen? Arrowslinger I didn't know you were going on this hunt with Bighorn, best of luck to the two of ya.

Dave, good job man! I can't wait to have some of your home made elk jerky. Hmmmmmmmmm does that sound right? Just forget I said that.

It looks like everyone is going out of state for an Elk hunt this year.

A couple of wives?????????? I have enough trouble keeping up with the one I have. As far as the kids go we are thinking of getting a pet bird. You can keep those in cages.

If anyone wants to join me on this hunt check out the above link.

Dave,

FYI, you might want to check out the reviews of Lone Tree HERE. Hopefully you won't have a similar experience. I'll be interested in hearing about your experience as I've been trying to pull a cow elk tag in California for years with no success so I've been considering Utah. The Hunting Co. (JHO sponsor) has one that looks pretty reasonable which I may go for one of these years.

Good luck to you.

I called the Hunting Co. and they said that they were probably not going to do the cow elk hunts this year. I hope that Lone Tree has their act together. I'll definitely be letting everybody how it goes.

One thing you might do is ask the outfitter for a list of his clients from last year and start contacting them. Ask them what they thought of Lone Tree. If he can't provide you with a list, that should be a clue. I know his prices seem reasonable. But my time is valuable. If I used a guide, I would expect results, at least a knowledgable staff. I am not saying to shy away, just do some more checking. Good luck.

John did send me some recent references. I will call them and see what they say. I appreciate everyone's input. I will definitely keep everyone up to date. I've got a pig hunt and several deer hunts before this one.

Compared to a lot of other outfit's prices for a shorter hunt it's not a bad price. This includes a guided hunt, food, camping, airport transportation and tag. I know that DIY can be cheaper, but for my first time out I decided to pay for a little assistance.

Shoot a nice mature healthy cow and enjoy the meat and the experience.
