Utah was never know as a big bull state until recently. Idaho, NM, Arizona and Colorado were always the talk of big bulls. What brought about the change in Utah? Was it the spike only units? Better habitat and conditions?

I'd guess cheatgrass and other noxious weeds that elk can eat which has encroached all over the west combined with the overall management emphasis on trophy hunts...

Not treating the Bull Elk like varmits is my guess. Our Bulls (Colorado) never get a chance to see their 3rd Birthday with the exception of a handful of GMU's thanks to over-the-counter Tags.

Utah, has some well managed units that have a very limited draw. you may only draw them once in you lifetime but like nevada if you do you have a real oppurtunity at a trophy.
