Vandenberg bound!

Headed out in a couple hours to the Vandenberg AFB to do a little piggy hunting and scouting for this coming deer season. Not sure what to expect but I just hope to get a good lay of the land and a good weekend in the field. I am gonna camp at the FAMCAMP and I will be in a White f150 with TX plates. If anyone sees me say hello! Ill report back with how the trip goes after the weekend fun is over! Thanks to those fellow JHO'ers that where helpful in making this trip happen.

Well, good luck. My closest friend was here and I took leave so we could hunt. In five days we saw four hogs; two boars and two pregnant sows. We don't shoot sows, especially pregnant ones (please try to refrain from shooting sows yourself) and several parties of hunters.

While the human hunting pressure appears to be "up", I wonder if it is the cougars that have hammered the hogs at VAFB - I can't help but think of that picture you posted of the four cougars drinking out of the water trough. What do you think?

Made it in to camp and I already have seen 2 deer 1 yote and a raccoon. Here's to the weekend! No intent here to take a wet sow and I'm flying solo so no big group hunt goin on with me

Crap I was the guy buying 308 this morn right at 1000! I'm out in c3 up by the big white globe things. I ain't seen any sign but its a beautiful day!

In all today I saw 4 deer 2 coyotes and on top of that had my mind blown with the landscape of vandenberg. This place is huge. But I am glad to be here and if I don't see one pig tommorow I will still say this trip was a success. The pictures I took are amazing!

Good luck getting a pig. Just make sure that you follow all the rules of the base. I'd like to hear that you got some meat for you and family. Boar or sow it all taste the same.
