Anyone headed up to vandenberg this weekend? I am going to be up there sat, sun, and monday. I called the wardens office today and they said area 4 is closed for the weekend. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up!

I can't go this weekend, but if you could, please post the results of your hunt when you get back.

I am planning on heading up there in a few weeks and would be interested in hearing how your hunt went.

I'm definitely gonna try to get up there before the 06 season ends. I have 5 tags that I get with my lifetime license.

I was able to connect with a good eater this weekend up in vandenberg. It was pretty tough hunting this weekend with a lot of people. Area 4 was closed so a lot of people where just piling in to area 3. There was only one other pig taken the whole weekend that I know of. I saw one big boar saturday evening but couldnt get close enough to connect. I worked out better that I got a small pig anyhow because I am deploying again in a month and a half and it should be the perfect amount of meat to last me through. Besides any tip out with the wife is a memorable one!

good luck,

Congrats on the nice hog. If you'll be eating it at the rate that I do, I think you're gonna have to down another porker before you deploy

. Anyways, thank YOU and the rest of our courageous women and men for maintaining our freedom.

Vandenberg is only open to the military. Not only can you not hunt, you can't even accompany him while he's hunting to play pack-mule.

100% absolutely not true.

I've hunted Vandenberg (I'm retired) and taken a civilian buddy along to hunt. He must be with me 100% of the time while on the base but it's allowed. Check with the warden if you have any doubts.

Use_Enough_Gun is correct. Active and Retired military can check in one guest to hunt with them. I've been able to hunt Vandenburg as a guest for about 2 years now. You have to get a guest sticker for your hunting licence in order to get checked in to hunt. And you have to get a base guest pass in order to be on the base.

I can second what calijeep hunter and use enough gun said about taking a guest. You can take one guest for for a maximum of 3 days and they have to stay with you at all times and your responsible for everything they do. Have you taken any pigs lately at vandenberg calijeephuntr? For some reason I always have the most trouble finding the pigs in the winter there. Does the same thing happen to you guys? Use enough gun- you cant beat pig hunting in shorts on the beach! God, I am gonna miss that place when I get out.......

I haven't taken one personally there yet. But i've been in on a few hunts that our companions scored this season. I know everytime i've been out there i've seen a pig or more then one pig. My dad and his buddy have scored a few already this season and have helped some other people connect. It's been an awesome year so far. Seems like everytime he goes out he sees a pig and has to tell me about it. lol And congrats on scoring on a nice hog up there!

I've been out this week, so a belated great job on the hog!

Glad to see it worked out for you and your wife. I am planning on taking my wife up there later this spring, so your photo provided us alot of motivation. Hooah!

Now that I know guest can hunt...is it like liggett were we have to send in a reservation / hunting application or do we just show up? Can anyone help me with details, costs, and directions? My buddy and i would like to do some more hogging in the next few months. Liggett is great but it is also a huge area and we were only able to see one TA when we were there Prez weekend. Thanks for any info you can supply!
