Anybody been to Vandenberg lately? Haven't been up there since last year and didn't see any pigs. Don't know how many hunt that base this time of year but Im looking to redeem myself after shatering an arrow against the rocks at a javelina in Arizona last month.

pbrdog thanks, Don't want to ask about your hotspots or anthing, just would like to know if you all hunt the thick brush and creekbottoms or glass from a distance. Tried both last time and never really got anywhere.

To be honest with you, this is my second time going there. There are two guys going with us that do well there every month. Next week I may be able to give you some heads up. Right now, I'm just going along for hopefully somme good piggin'. Have some good guides.

Just got back yesterday. Didn't see one hog. Saw alot of deer and quail. The hogs are there though. Guess that's just luck of the draw. Going back again maybe next month. Did alot of walking and sitting. Had a good time though and learned alot more than I knew before. Maybe see you up there sometime.

usmarine,
WELCOME HOME !! I recall that a few months ago you were deployed.

pbrdog,

just curious, where did you do your hunting ??

when I was there in December I spent most of my time in Area 4.

Cheers,

Carl

thanks carl. Its good to be home. We spent our time in Area 4 as well but had no luck. Only had a few days to hunt though. I hope to take a few more trips that way before I deploy again but I think it takes quite a bit of scouting up there until you really know where you need to go. Do you know anything about the southern hunting areas, did even get there last time.

Yeah, we were in area 4 also. It seems most people get the hogs out of 4 or 2A. Saw alot of sign, just no hogs. Must have seen about 50 deer, couldn't tell if they were bucks or does as it's shed season. Never saw so many quail there either. I think this fall may be a Vandenberg fall. Hunt all 3 game at the same time. Do the hog and deer hunting in the morning and late afternoon, and the quail during the day. Figure keep a couple slugs on stand - by in case I surprise a hog or deer.

Matt,

I've not been in the southern areas at all, and haven't heard/read anything about 'em.
Pig Bill is the guy to hook-up with, he knows it all. One of these days I hope to have that privilege.

I just got a shotgun (Remington 870) so now I can get into Area 2A and wander around.

Cheers,

Carl
