I will be going up to Vandenburg for the first time pig hunt since I moved to Cali. I just wondered can anyone narrow down the area. I am going over the turkey day 96 hr liberty. If anyone has suggestions on where would be a good local to find the pork plus a the best spot to park my camper I would appreciate it.

Are you in the military, because I would love to go hunting there. I know its not open to the public, but can I go hunting there if I go with my brother in law since he's in the Marines. Just woundering, but I will ask him since he has had some buddy's that have hunted there before and got pigs. Great place to hunt if you can get in. but goot luck on finding people that know that area. They would have to be in the military. Maybe you can ask Boartacks. Good luck.

Get a map when you get to the base. Head up to the NW corner training areas.

I'm going up to Vandenberg in January to do some work for my company. I'm not military, but am wondering if because I'll have access for a few days if they'd let me hunt it for coyotes or boar. If anyone knows please post up.

KERN KILLER.........am I reading your post right? Do they let you to shoot pigs on the beach at night (do base rules superceed Calif. State fish and Game codes?)? Just curious......

Freedivr2,

as best I understand it, only military can hunt. Two "checks and balances" on this are the VAFB hunting permit purchased in the base exchange, and then the check-in with the on-base DFG office..... military ID cards are asked for both times.

Cheers,

Carl

I went up there and thanks for the info on the game areas I would have been really lost up there without the maps you sent. It helped me get around to areas I would have not bothered going to because of the gates. I did not see one pig in the two day hunt I did see lots of deer and qual. I found plenty of sign but with all the hunters there over the weekend I didnt hear of anyone connecting with a pig. I ran all over the place I am sure with more time I might have got one in another day or two but dont have the time. I didnt know when people said check out the creek area they where talking about crawling down that steep bank and walking down the gullies. I finally did it and there was pig sign everywhere. It all started making some sense in the end.
