Volunteers are needed this morning to help count salmon in Dry Creek.
The number of chinook salmon spawning in the creek is believed to be small, but the Dry Creek Conservancy began counting the fish only in recent years and the surveying effort continues to grow. The creek runs from near Natomas in Sacramento east to Roseville and western Placer County.
Anglers are good candidates to participate, said Gregg Bates of the conservancy. Volunteers should be comfortable wading in rivers and creeks, and should bring clean waders and a camera.
Meet at 9 a.m. at the United Artists movie theater parking lot at Eureka Road and North Sunrise Avenue.
Another count Saturday will survey Auburn Ravine. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Auburn Ravine Nature Preserve, at the end of Moore Road off Joiner Parkway, in Lincoln.
For more information, contact Bates at (916) 773-6575.
