Seems like elk hunters and walltents go hand in hand so I'll post it here. I need one!! I was lucky enough to draw a late season muledeer tag in washington!!! I need a wall tent big enough for 4 men for 2 weeks!!!

I have heard great things about several companys . been researching for a coupl weeks now and so far the most reccomended is Davis wall tents.

What's your thoughts?

Also a buddy suggested havin D-rings installed instead of the usual gramets??

Thanks for the help!!

Any Pics?

CD- Have two Davis tents and I can't say enough about them! Got a basic 10x12 with stove jack for hunting and then they made me a 16x20 custom doors, 6' walls, etc. for business purposes. They are a great company to work with and are willing/capable of building anything you want!

Another thumbs up for Davis. Don't go to the frame upgrade though, it doesn't let the snow slide off the tent. Ask them when you call, they will explain it to you as they did for me. It is a very easy tent to set up and the parts from the stock frame can be bought at any hardware store.

I got my tent from Davis. Haven't hunted out of if yet but camped in it once. Easy to set-up. Was like being in a cabin. I have the 14X16 size. Bought the poles from Home Depot using their cut-sheet. Nice folks to deal with. Just need to get a stove now and I'll be set for elk season.

Kentuck,
If i may offer a suggestion on a stove, it would be Cylinder Stoves out of Cedar City, UT. It is a great stove that all the parts stow away inside the cylinder when storing. It has a warming shelf and a water tank that provides some humidity as well as warm water to wash up.

Another option you might consider is what I have done.....I have an old military surplus tent....hexagon shape with a 20 foot diameter.....rubberized canvas so it is extremely weather proof....has a stove jack and telescoping aluminum poles that are a breeze to put up....

I got all this and a pellet burning stove for less than $600 and the tent is in nearly new condition.

Just a thought

Is this size tent difficult to find a place to set it up? That is a very large foot print...

Do these tents have some type of floor so that your dry?

Most of these tents don't have floors. They have what's called a sod cloth around the edge to help keep moisture out. Most folks use tarps or old carpet in the area where they sleep but some of the area is just dirt.

Just curious about you wall tent owners/users. Do any of you horse pack with them, or do you camp roadside. I am working my way slowly toward trying to use my horses(3) to get 8-10 miles off the road, but as I've been running the numbers, it takes alot of stock to take in a camp suitable for Idaho Novembers hunts.

Another vote for Davis (Mine is 12 X 14). Although we have five (5) wall tents in our hunting party, some of the others are Montana Canvas which is also a very good tent, and the aluminum poles seem to be a little easier to set up/take down.
of course a Cylinder stove for heating purposes.

Floor = plastic tarp and indoor/outdoor carpet
Cabela's Outfitter XL cot is as good as your bed.
This is the perfect combo for 3 snowy November weeks in the rookies.
What more could you want?

I got the Cabela's Bighorn II and love it. It is 12x12 and really easy to set up. The price is right too compared to other outfitter style tents.
