Well, I got a pig this weekend. It was a sow that weighed in at about 125 lbs. I was hunting on the GR property up by Lake Sonoma. I tromped around all Saturday during the day and only saw pigs on the other side of our fences. During mid-day, I wandered around the ranch exploring it and checking out the camps. I saw several pigs hanging and heard about others that had been taken. All the while, trying to get as many hints as possible.

Saturday evening, I decided to work an area that had looked promising two weeks ago. I drove out a ways on the two-track road until I could find a decent looking area. Then I parked and starting stalking. I went in a big circle that after about 2 hours brought me back to that road about a mile from the truck.

While I was standing there catching my breath and having some water, I caught a movement of something black, which immediately disappeared behind a bunch of brush. So, I got prone and waited to see what it was. Soon, a small black pig comes out into the open. Then another, and another. Then a larger brown one came out. I gauged its size and decided that it was going home with me.

When I fired the rifle, the pig went down and about ten more pigs came out of the brush. The bunch of them went running in all directions. The biggest was probably more than 200 lbs. There were also some that were like little footballs with legs.

Once I dispatched her, I went and got my truck. I pulled it up to within about 60 feet of her, dropped my cart down off of the truck, hauled her up the slope and had her loaded in about 30 minutes.

I LIKE IT WHEN IT WORKS OUT THAT WAY! LOL

I went out again Sunday morning with some guys that I had met in camp. One veteran pig hunter and one virgin. We found a ridge that none of us had worked before and did a small drive on it. Within 40 minutes, they spotted two feeding out in the open. They picked their pig, sighted in and pulled triggers as close as possible together. They dropped both of them.

Mine is at the butcher now. Hope to have some fresh ham by the end of the week.

Way to go, ClickDog!  Glad you remembered to put a round in the chamber before you pulled the trigger.  :;

Wish you could've hung out a little longer yesterday evening.  It took about another hour for that danged shoulder to finish cooking through, but it sure was good.  I'll work on the timing a little bit next time... my apologies.  Enjoyed your company anyway!

See you folks this weekend.
