After a little over 1 year with my beloved DRebel, I decided that it was time to upgrade to a more advanced body!

I placed my order and hopefully will have my camera by the weekend. I think that the 20D and my 100-400L are going to become very good friends!!!

I ordered it with the 18-55 kit lens as it was the same price as body only. If anyone is intested in this lens cheap, shoot me an email and I'll make you a deal! I also have a Tamron 75-300 that I'm intested in selling. With the 100-400, I really don't need the double coverage.

20D and a 100-400L sounds like a recipe for success. Congratulations. That 100-400L has IS doesn't it? How is that Tamron 75-300? What is max Aperture on it and do you find it to be a sharp lens?

you are gonna like it! I'm still getting the hang of mine, but have enjoyed it based on what I have done with it.

Woo-Hoo!!!!! Congrats foulshot. You're gonna like it. I love mine - just can't wait any longer for the new 70-300 IS to get here. Another week or so hopefully...

John(Otto), first answer, yes the 100-400 is IS. I do believe that is the only way that lens is made. It is a 2 mode IS. Mode 1 horizontal and vertical, mode 2 horizontal only.

Now the Tamron. The lens info is here. I have found it to be a sharp lens at f/7-10. For a less expensive lens it does well. It was my only long lens for about 10 months. All of the snowgeese shots in my gallery were taken with the tamron. The lens is in excellent shape, no scratches, etc... I can dig up some more pics if you'd like, just let me know.

foulshot,
I need a lens that will do a good job on deer at 200-300 yards in evening light. Deer do alot of standing still so I think a 80-400 sigma or a 100-400 canon would do even with the 4.5 and up apertures; however I have never useed either nor do I know anyone that has one(except you.) I use a 70-200 2.8 with a 1.4 TC now, but it just doesn't seem to have enough reach. I want to take pictures that look at least as good as the image I get when looking through my Swarovski 10 x 42s.

How would your 100-400 do in that situation?
Might have to start saving up again.

John
