I recently bought a pair of Bushnell Legends 8x42 roof's, "upgraded". They are nitrogen purged, Bak4 prisms, fully multi-coated, PC-3 phase coated, and with rainguard. For the money you can't get a better package. I've compared them to my Burris Fullfields 8x40's, and they are optically better. The Legends are very crisp, sharp, bright, and compact . I couldn't believe it, all for $429.00 Canadian.
I have the Steiner Predator 8 by 22 and am extremely happy with them. Paid about 150 for them, but the clarity and featherlike weight make them the best pair I have ever owned. Vision in low light is amazing.
I have had 10 x 50 Nikon Actions Porro, 10 x 50 bruntons porro and now I have the 10 x 42 Swarovskis roof. Don't get me wrong the Swarovskis are unbelievable, but those other two pairs were some great binoculars as my father and brother-in-law will now attest.
10x42 Nikon Venturers, but if I had it to do over again, I would.....I wouldnt take anything for my Venturers!!!
The Leica's 10x42 are really great, as are the Swaro EL's...
The Venturers are a tad bit heavy, as someone already posted..
Just baught a pair of Leica 8 x 42 BN. I looked at all the other top end makes including Zeiss and Swaroroski and these were the best in my opinion. Brighter and clearer and rated as probably the best available by most hunters/bird watchers in the UK. Sadly not cheap but worth every penny at £700.
Just retired my 9x40 steiners and got the new leica duovid 8x12x42. they are extremely nice and most impressive is looking around and below a sunset. the steiners would catch the glare. as long as i dont get the sun into the pic i can really get a good picture. I took 2 years to talk myself into them and so far i am real happy.
now i am thinking about selling my Nikon spotting scope and getting the swarovski 15x56 bino's and a good tripod.
Cabelas ALaskan Guide 10x42's, haven't had much of a chance to try them out in the woods or mountains yet, but playing with them out in the ocean at sun-up and sun down, not too bad so far, will post again once I get back from D-8 in a few weeks, have to get back to the states first.
