What I learned....or remembered.... this weekend:
1. My new pup is working out beautifully. After only 7 hogs she is already a valuable asset to the crew. She turned on VERY fast.
2. Training pups can be very fun and exciting but wide open country and burly boar hogs can be a dangerous mix.
3. When you catch up the veteran dogs and let the hog go with only the pups on it....the danger level increases 7 fold.
4. Just because you dodge 10 or 12 charges while armed only with your trusty camera doesn't mean you don't have to look out for lucky #13.
5. Always Zag. Zigging doesn't work for sh**!
6. When ignoring rules 1-4....Always be certain your hunting buddies are willing to staple you up along with the dogs, even if they laugh while they do it.
7. Demand to be stapled before the dogs....even if you don't deserve to cut in line.
8. Take it like a man.
9. Lots of people don't finish their antibiotics which can come in handy at times.
10. Boar hogs are strong sons of b******.

Thank you.

He hit me so hard it knocked the batteries out of the camera and I never found them. If you have ever heard a big boar do that blow-roar thing they do 3 or 4 times when they are charging something you know how bad-ass it sounds. That is usually what stops most people from making it into the bay to see what's going on. When it happens 3 feet from you coming wide open....well, you're pretty much done for. He hit my leg which up ended me and shanked me twice before I could hit the ground. Nothing like the feeling of a tusk sliding into your butt cheek. The second one just grazed my lower back. I really thought the 3rd was going to hit me right between the shoulder blades but he kept on running. The pups got him spun around again and although my partner wanted to take some more pics...I overruled him. I gave him the what for as he squared up to charge again. You can see in the pic where the lower cut and the upper just tore my pants.
The things we do that we call fun huh?

Call me crazy but I don't Dodge very well. But will take on a charging sow or a young boar. Their weak points is its ears once you got that, the boar is yours. It a mere adrenaline rush between man and boar. Some times you escape and sometime you don't.

Reminds me of an old snake bite joke. Two friends out hunting and one gets bit on the behind by a rattler while takin' care of business. His buddy gets to a phone and calls the doc. Doc says to suck the poison out. Buddy asks, what if I don't? Doc say he might die. Buddy gets back to his stricken friend and the guy asks what the doc said. All his buddy could say was, "You're gonna die."

Way to take it for the team. Wow.

Maybe you should start wearing some cut pants. I take it you were not holding the catch dog. I had the same thing happen 3 years ago, I am lucky I did not need stitches, or staples, only new pants, no one in our crew would help.

There are so many things I could say, but none of them are very nice... except your friends must be good friends indeed!

"Sometimes you get the bear. Sometimes the bear get you."

Seriously, glad you didn't get hurt bad...although I bet your butt hurts right good about now. You're getting too old for that stuff. Send in Jr.

Thankfully, it was my camera they were using so the pics are mine....and I promised my wife that she wouldn't have to see my naked butt on the internet again.

Not as bad as the ultra slow-motion flight with my back turned to the hog, getting hit 3 times before I could even hit the ground and not knowing if the SOB is going to spin circles tearing me up or keep on moving. It happened pretty fast but I do remember feeling that tusk sink in and knowing that all there was on him was a couple of pups.

The staples aren't that bad. It hurts more where his upper hit me than the cut does. My leg where it got smashed is the worst but I'm going out tomorrow so it can't be too bad I guess.

He had a little under 2" but he was big and strong. I know I have buns of steel and all but I'm sure with the compaction of my ass when he hit me, that hole is 3" or so in there.

Nope. Just the camera. Believe me...I tried to wish my camera into a bulldog during my flight but you can see how well that worked out for me.

It's pretty funny now, which is why I posted for you all to laugh at me, but I guess it's part of the game. The moral of the story is.......um....getting old sucks?

Wow, I've seen them come close but never seen anyone actually get shanked by one. 3" is a decent sized hole too. Almost ripped you a new one!
