What Scope do you use?

Hey all


I am looking to buy a scope to go on my new 30-06 Springfield Mark V.

1. What type of scope do you use curently?

2. If you were shopping for a new one which would it be?

3. What would you consider a fair price to pay?

I will be using it for most of my hunting until I move to a bow. I was hoping you guys/Gals could give me some ideas. Thank you as always for any information you provide.

Howdy, I use the Bushnell scope that came on my Remington 06 model 710 I think the scope is the sharpshooter model.

It works good for me. My first shot at a boar was 135 yds ravine to ravine side, put a 185 grn corelock in its heart.

If conditions are OK I would take a 200 yd shot now with it, been thinking of a better scope but not on this rifle. I recently took my first boar on the run shot form a land cruiser that the engine was running too, got him at about 85 yds, so I'm OK with what I have , but then I have not used a really good scope either. I think you have to ask your self are u really gonna take shots over 200 yds on pigs?

ive got a cheap tasco scope on my main hunting rifle a 6.5 mm swedish mauser vintage 1914 ive hammered every animal ive shot at with it its cost was $29.95 its been all over california and to africa wich i shot a spring bok at over 300 yds . the best advice i can give you is to mount the scope properly and for gods sake use a thread locker such as lock tite bore site gun take to the range start to fine tune at 25 yds for windage then go to 100yds for elevation and make shure group is tite and dead center in bulls eye and youll be driving tacks its not how much you spend on the scope its all about doing it right if you dont lock tite all the screws you may regret it ive had more than one hunter have his scope falloff because they refused to doit with their respose being i mite remove it the only reason to take a scope off a gun as far as i am concerned is because its busted

i had a cheap scope. an old weaver. it cost me a hunt when the reticle went away. some man bought all the tooling from weaver and set up shop. he fixed it for me, and i put it back on the rifle. my confidence was gone. i bought a leupold VXIII, 3.5-10 and i have never looked back. i bought the exact scope for a .257 weatherby. i really like the leupolds. i see some go for sale used, i am just out of rifles to put them on

Buy American; buy a Leopold. I have VX-I's and II's and I do prefer the -II's. I find that the input matches the impact change; if I need to move the point of impact down an inch I move it down four clicks. I can't do that on the VX-I's. They might move two inches or a half inch. Once the adjustment is made it holds it well and the scope has a good image, particularly at dusk or dawn. Yes, they are a bit on the pricey side, but it's nice to have the confidence associated with a good riflescope.

I used to have problem seeing the horns up to 200 yards with the 3-9 scope i used to have i forgot what brand it was.i passed up lots of deer it was a clear scope but not enough power to see the horns with the 3 x 9 scope i used to have so i went with the walmart 6-18-50 bushnell scope payed 130 dollers for it now i could make out if deer are legal or not the farthest ive seen a buck and droped it was 360 yards away i could see the forks clear. i know theres better scopes out there for more money but this one gets the job done for the money good luck.

I didn't buy a $1,000 dollar scope when the only time i look through it is for 7 seconds at game. Save money and buy good bino's and spotting scope,like Swarovski.

You don't specify your budget. I gotta agree with everybody's recommendations. In my case, I was tight on funds. The first "cheap" scope I got was a Bushnell Banner 4-12 with 40mm objective. It served me really well and is still on the rifle. I think the quality of the Banner scopes has dropped. Next "cheap" scope that I got was the Bushnell Elite 3200 in 3-9 with 40mm objective. So far so good! One day when I have the money I would love a Zeis or Swavorski, but until then. . . .

I have a Leupold VX-II 2-7 x 32 on my primary hunting rifle. I love it. Crisp and clear images, easy to ajust, easty to set up and sight in. Since I haven't had a problem getting within 150 yards of the hogs I've shot, the max 7x magnification has been plenty for me. I also like the low 2x magnification for closer range shots. I've shot 2 hogs on the run at less than 25 yards, and the 2x power allowed me to put my crosshairs where I wanted them and follow the hogs even on the run at close range.

Agreed. I just put a VX-II 3-9x40 on my .308. The MOA adjustments are so much more precise than my past scopes. It was honestly a guessing game with those others. I have never had a shot over 240yds where I hunt so the 9x is fine and dandy for me. If you're out on the plains or high desert though...

As others have said, don't go overboard spending a million dollars on a scope. Lord knows it's possible...

VXII 3-9 X 40 on my rifle and VXI 4-7 X 30 on my slug gun

My rule of thumb is: I won't buy a scope that costs more than the rifle. If I had a $5,000 Sauer I might consider a $2,000 Swarovski to go with it. As it happens all I've got are Remingtons, Rugers and Brownings. I'll stick with my loopies.

The cheap little package savage I bought had a scope on it and it has worked fine rain or not.
If I was going to buy one just because I could it would be a 3.5 to 10 x 50 or probably a 4-12 x 50 leupold VX-L with a Boone & crocket recticle.

At this point I don't see the need. The little 3-9 simmons that came on the savage has woked just fine.

Another vote for the Leupold VX II, timeless quality in an American made scope. I bought mine off EBay new, still in the box with the warranty. I think retail it's about $300.00 (does that sound right guys...?) - also remember I saved roughly 50 to $75.00 by purchasing it off an EBay store with high marks for integrity.

hmm. sorry, but buy some binoculars. i consider it bad form to use a rifle scope to check something out. i dont aim at anything i dont plan on shooting. it isnt safe. one time while hiking for deer, we couldnt find a single animal. my brother and i, hiked up into the higher elevations. i saw a man roadhunting waaaay down there, i looked at him through my binos, and i saw him point his rifle at us. i sat down quick and he waved at me. at the end of day, my bro and i, walked down the hill, found that guy, and asked him, "WTF" he said he saw us hiking up, and wanted to check us out. he used his scope as his "binos". he knew i was pissed.

$200 - $500 - Loopy VXIII 2.5-8x36, Loopy FXIII 6x42 (got one - happy), Bushnell 4200 3-9x40, Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40
$500- $750 - Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 (got one - verrry happy)
$750 plus - you choose with that kind of cheese.

dont be sorry i have 3 pair of binoculars and i dont hunt without em i have seen guys hunt and scope people and it isnt right makes you wounder if they even took the hunter education class. it only takes one jerk to mess up a hunt sorry to hear about your exsperience. my dad has been shot at a couple of times by these jerks.
