Well, it depends on the draw. I am in for WY, am hoping for NV, AZ, CA, OR or NM, but will bowhunt OR if the draw comes up dry.

Since I live about 10 miles from Grizzly Island I will put in again for about the tenth year for Grizzly Island.  Then I will go to Colorado or Idaho like I have for the last ten years.

Paulc,
Good luck on the draw this year. I'd like to hear that story about AZ sometime. If I get drawn, it will be first time in AZ for elk. I have in for NM also, So I have a lot of phone calls to make.

I'll be putting in for Colorado unit 20 and possibly Arizona.  Probably cow only.

I'm going to put in for New Mexico and Montana this year, possibly California.

I'll need to stay local (WA) this year. My son's first year hunting big game. He's 10. We'll no doubt hunt the rifle over-the-counter spike hunt for him (put in for a cow permit) and I hunt archery (put in for branch antler bull). Most units I hunt are spike or antlerless. We hunt the mountains around Yakima - Rimrock, Cowechie, Bethel. Although, I did find a real honey hole for Rosevelts on the Peninsula last fall while hunting Blacktail. The units over there are mostly over-the-counter, but 3 pt. minimums.

Good luck all    -==-------------->

I'll more than likely be putting in for a cow tag in Colorado.  I may also try my hand at a California elk tag too.

Speck,

If you're considering Oregon, I would recommend you get the Oregon Tag Guide from Percentage Tags. Lots of really good info there that'll help you decide which units would be best.

Also, the rifle season is pretty much a zoo for elk. For a quality hunt, you'll want to either hunt private land or else a wilderness area, like on horseback.

Our elk herd is growing in most areas here, and there are some really good areas if you're just interested in getting a decent bull. But, if you really need a world class trophy, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

Planning on camping out in Malheur National Forest in Oregon for an elk bowhunt in September.  A friend has hunted there the past two seasons and invited me along this year.  Bull ot cow... don't matter to me at this point.

I'll submit for a Pennslyvania tag but it will probably be a donation.

I'll make my donation to California again (gettin' a little old after 16 years of this).  Either way I'm going to Oregon in '03 to hunt on a client's ranch.  Resident herd of 400+ elk, free tag, outstanding accomodations, it doesn't get any better than that.

Regards,
Paul
