I guess being new i am always looking for both. But using a bow makes it harder. If I saw a forkie and a 5X5, i'd stalk the 5X5.

Both. It simply depends on the situation, area... Locally where I hunt the trophies are far and few between, with the vast majority of those trophies on private land. In this area I prefer to hunt the high density areas of public land .and simply consider it a meat hunt. I generally take anything legal that presents the opportunity.

I also hunt the Sierras, but for me, it's a trophy hunt. My partner doesn't consider it a trophy hunt, yet. So thus far, between the two of us, we always manage to find a buck for my partner to shoot and harvest. Finding one for me to shoot, hasn't been an issue yet. The harvest part is a different story. Hunting those trophies is a totally different game; and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Im a trophy hunter first. The challenge of taking an old, mature animal is part of the appeal of hunting to me. That being said towards the end of a season or at the end of a hunt I will take an opportunity to put meat in the freezer.

Wow!... thats great, everybody's got their own standard and views.... i guess in my eyes i see stake on the table and not rack on the wall. Although i do have some wall hangers...just the meat is soooo tough and cant eat the antlers...hahaha

As a bow hunter, I consider a forkie or a hundred pound pig a trophy. When you have to get inside 50 yards on a big game animal, any legal harvest is an accomplishment. With that being said......I prefer a mature animal and I have never applied for a either sex tag. Given the same shot I will always take the 5x5 over the fork! A small trout tastes better than a 10 pounder but I would rather catch the big ones. Old mature deer make great jerky and sausage anyway.

For pigs I shoot what I can't catch. I've had a couple friends catch the little ones. Either way they get eaten. As far as a deer hunter, I am an un-successful hunter. That said I 'll take what I can get

bsanders, I simply thought it was a miss statement. Hell even my wife still asks me what I caught when I get back from hunting.

Type of game changes it as well. I've never taken a bear and only hunted them once in Oregon. If I end going on a guided hunt I will try and take the biggest bear I can but if I DIY it then I will probably take the first legal bear I see. Pigs I don't consider a "trophy" animal but rather an animal that is just fun to hunt so the size of the pig matters little too me

Have yet to harvest any big game, the attraction for me is for the meat.

I also justify the hunting of pigs as they're an invasive species & in need of control.

But if there's a shot at a big boar with long tusks next to a smaller meat pig? I'd probably take the trophy.

X12 bow hunting on my way back to camp not much day light left i came around a corner on a fire trail and there he was a monster of a buck 10ft away raised my bow drew back and lowered the bow thinking dam the arrow will jump and not hit its mark at this distance, well i ended up shooting him in the lower leg, 4X4 pushing 40" i felt sick the rest of my days to hunt up there.

Also no big game yet for me. have seen pigs but things just couldn't fall in place for success. I passed on a forkie that I'm starting to regret. but in it for the meat. I just really enjoy kicking rocks on the trails.

I have gotten the opportunity to see big bucks and small bucks. My first buck I harvest was a 3x2 this being said he was with a a small forky and Very large 3x2 and I mean very large. I pass on the other bucks and took this one, why it was closer and gave me better shot. Trophies are nice but as wolf man said they are hard and can't be eaten. Would I put a trophy on the was or meat In The freezer? I would put meat in the freezer and heck why not do European style as well!

It all depends on the situation. At heart I am a meat hunter because it's always a lot nicer to have wild game in the freezer than store bought beef. That being said, I drew the G3 hunt some years back and it was about size on that hunt. I will say that 5X6 I got tasted damn good tho!
