I'm trying to find a good rest. I've always laid sandbags on a hood of a truck and never really had trouble getting good groups but I'm wanting to start shooting seriously, not like competitions or anything, just want to "see" how good I really am. What brand do you use or recommend. Is it just sand bags or do you use what to me looks like a tripod with sand bag holders. If you use the tripod with sand bags how would that make it more sturdier? To me it would be just another gadget that gets in the way but if it improves your hold then thats what I want. Also, would you use a rear sandbag with a long front sandbag like the 15" bench bulls bag or the ballistics bag (i think thats the name of it) Now, I'm not wanting to spend $300 on a sinclair rest or anything, just something that would tighten my groups up a little bit. Also, I would be shooting from a bench instead of a pickup. Please help me!!!!!

I use sand bags at the front and a caldwell bag at the rear , I am no expert but it works pretty well for me. A sturdy bench will help also.

I have used for years a Hoppes expert bench rest it works very good and is priced well, then 2 years ago I got a Harris bipod you talk about being able to hold steady this is like night and day and you can use it hunting it slips on and off quick so you can move it from gun to gun as long as it has a front stud for a sling, I now have 2 Harris bipods and just bought an adjustable to 27" long Outers one for hunting works same as Harris at 1/2 the price, I still take my rest along, but the bipod is WAY better
