BOISE D'ARC, Mo. - Eleven sportsmen and women with disabilities will have the opportunity to hunt wild turkeys, April 30 - May 1, on 3,000 acres of rolling hills at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Boise D'Arc, Mo.

"This event gives more people with disabilities a chance to get outdoors and enjoy the spring turkey season," said Kirk Thomas, national coordinator of Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF. "We appreciate the Missouri Department of Conservation stepping up to sponsor this hunt, and we hope this helps create more Wheelin' Sportsmen events in Missouri."

Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF is the National Wild Turkey Federation's outreach program for people with disabilities and host of Boise D'Arc's spring hunt. Along with Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), NWTF Show-Me chapter, and the Southwest Center for Independent Living will co-sponsor the hunt.

"The MDC is delighted to host this special turkey hunt for people with disabilities," said Michael Brooks, Missouri Department of Conservation outdoor education center supervisor. "We're proud to offer this opportunity during the Missouri turkey season."

In conjunction with the hunt, the MDC will enter into an official agreement with the NWTF as a supporter of the Wheelin' Sportsmen program. A formal signing will be held at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center on Saturday, April 30, at 1 p.m., after the morning hunt.

With the same dedication the NWTF has given to wild turkey restoration efforts across North America, the NWTF is delivering - and in some cases re-introducing - the beauty and excitement of the outdoors to thousands of people with disabilities through its outreach program, Wheelin' Sportsmen.

Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF provides all people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors through local chapter events nationwide, such as hunting, fishing and shooting activities. The program also provides a full-color, quarterly magazine to its members. Wheelin' Sportsmen magazine is dedicated to the education and entertainment of outdoors enthusiasts with disabilities.
