we still have about 5-6 inches of snow in some areas here in Michigan and i think there is still a few bucks carrying headgear but i was wondering do you guys wait until the snow is all gone, almost all gone or go even in the snow? i would like to shed hunt this year so any advice would help. thanks

food sources and other wintering areas...fence rows, stone walls, funnels and other transition areas...ask around and see if anyone else has seen some bucks..and does even...when you get a chance hit those areas even if it is only for a few minutes...got to be in the woods to find 'em
good luck

If it's your own property I would wait until all the deer have shed, otherwise you will just push them out. I have a picture from last April of a buck still holding one side! Plus, once the snow melts you will have a much easier time finding them. I do most of my shed hunting in March.

the first year I had my game cam I got a photo of a yearling buck still holding both sides in April.

i agree with coyotebandit . i would go out to see where they are hanging around, maybe mark some well used trails and areas, if the snow is deep like here i don't like to pressure them remember does are carrying fawns. little or no snow is the best, also just something about being out in that fresh spring air and shed hunting. almost as exciting as hunting in the fall. good luck whenever you go and remember pictures where they lay are the best.
