Heading out in the next week or two for Idaho with stick and string. Haven't been able to get an absolute date set do to work. It will be my oldest son and I for the archery trip then back in mid October for my youngest son's rifle Elk tag. Lucky kid, that's two rifle Elk tags drawn in three years.
Was onto them all day on Saturday. I just couldnt shoot though as I was in a spike or cow only area. Had bulls screaming and cows chirping. I am still holding out for a shot in another area I am working for a mature bull. I may end up empty handed but I had a great time in the middle of a huge herd. Multiple shot oppotunities at cows. I have passed on two bull elk in the mature bull area and I am feeling the pain from that decision already. I have never been a trophy hunter and really wanted a wall hanger this year. I am pretty sure I will give that up as it is too much fun to enjoy the harvest and tablefare.
Really? I'm sure Mike taking that spike I saw back at his camp on my way back home to do honey-do's didn't influence you at all, right!? ...lol. I ran into a few myself and was chasin' bugles...lol. That spring coming out of the side of the hill I found with a treestand (upgraded) last year was dry but there was water bubbling up from the creek instead. Up to the left from there was herd city up on top. Also in the canyon below there.
I was hoping after I shoot my Monster Bull in Wyoming this Saturday, we'll hike into your area and get a couple more...
