I'm from north western VT and have spent the past 3 years enjoying hunts in south eastern ny on my uncles 400 acres of posted property. VT fish and game has recently put in antler restrictions which in its 2nd year has already seen drastic increases in deer heard and total kill. However where i live it seems each year more developments are going up and those damn yellow signs too. I have hope for future years as more and more hunters in vt practice better ethical hunting.

ok first Ontarioan to post :) ahah well as you can guess im from Ontario, im 19 years old and been hunting, fishing since i was 3 its in my blood what can i say. last year we lost a 50 acre area. due to the owners wife acquiring a dog which she didnt want us being there for whenever it runs around the land. so my father and i found some new land we ended up with 100 acres with approx 20 acres of poplar plantations(due to be cut down) this is our first year in this new spot. there unvacant land beside us.. of up to 200+ acres available so we might end up with more. only time will tell. i missed a giant 160 class buck this year. haha ended up witha small fork horn instead. lots of deer. my dad and my uncles taught me everythign i know ive influenced my dad into making food plots and such. it really keeps the deer in the area and even if we dont harvest out of the food plots we know that we are providing good nutrients into them and helping them surviving the winter, also grow bigger racks. i hunt with compound bow , shotgun , crossbow, and rifle. ive got an old astro daco 150# crossbow and a PSE thunderbolt compound. this year im starting to hunt with the bow. this is a kool place:)

Hi from DrTrkHntr,
I live in a small town Cramerton, NC and hunt mainly in Chester and
Fairfield Counties in South Carolina since about 1980. Hope to hunt
in my home state some this year if I can find land to hunt on. It is
pretty scarce in my area. Been deer and turkey hunting for 42 years.
Thankful that my God has supplied us with such a great sport and
hope all of you are successful this coming season.

I currently hunt in the Des Moines, IA area. But have hunted all over the state.

I pretty much taught myself how to hunt whitetails, and currently teaching. My dad never really hunted deer when I was growing up we usually hunted for pheasants and rabbits. However I have talked him into hunting with me for about the last 6 years or so.

I hunt with a shotgun, mossberg 9200 scoped with rifled barrel, CVA optima muzzelloader and an older york compound. I have only been bowhunting for 2 years counting this year.

I both from a stand and still hunt but i primarily stand hunt

I would have to say my dream whitetail hunt would be to canada on a muzzleloader hunt.

I am doing my deer hunting in the wide open prairies of Saskatchewan. I've been a bird hunter for 8 years and this year is my first year for heading out in search of a monster whitetail. I have picked up most, if not all of my hunting knowledge from buddies and whatever I can find on the internet (yes there actually is more to the internet than porn ;)

I jumped in with both feet this year and bought a rifle. I picked up a 30-06 Savage 116FCSS and mounted a Bushnell Legend 3.9.40 scope on it. Rifle season doesn't open up here until Nov. 19th so I've been chomping at the bit to get out and get my first whitetail.

Good luck everyone...stay safe!!

I am from rural Western NY State, Cattaraugus county. I own some land about 5 miles from my house, about 13 prime acres w/ creek , great hunting esp whitetails.
I also have owner's permission on thousands of acres in my neighborhood.

My county finally saw the light a couple years ago and allows rifle as well as shotgun. I use a Marlin 336c 30-30 got my buck last season....1shot..1 deer

I am from just south of St. Louis. Once a year I bowhunt private land near Booneville, MO (central MO). The rest of the year I bowhunt conservation land near home with no luck. The deer seem to be way too pressured and almost completely nocturnal. This year I did hunt private land near Lebanon, MO during the extended (antlerless only) firearms season and did harvest a deer. Since I am the only one in my house who will eat venison, I donated it to "Share the Harvest" with hopes of taking another during bow season for personal consumption. I enjoy bowhunting most. My bow is a Mathews Switchback XT. My dream hunt right now is a Canadian black bear bowhunt. I would love to have a rug.

First post new to this website. My name is Mike Winemiller, I hunt in the backyards of New Jersey with Bowtech bow. I havent yet gotten a deer on the ground with the bow, but getting them from the stand is a great time. I learned to hunt from my father and have been hunting about 5 seasons. My dream hunt would have to be in Kansas during the rut.

I'm from Texas, and I hunt whitetail anywhere I can. Not being independently wealthy makes that a little difficult at home sometimes. My Grandpa has some land down in Jim Hogg County, but despite massive bucks being taken in that same county every year, I've not seen a deer (or deer sign) in almost a decade on his land. The season before I deployed a lease owner was kind enough to let me hunt two does for free, so I could get some jerky meat for OIF5. We'll see how I manage to fill the freezer in 2008.

Ok, first off

I started whitetail hunting in the 2003 season

Self taught, but I read and ask a lot of questions

I pee right off my stand, no kidding, and I harvest a lot of deer

I live in NE Indiana and mainly bow hunt

I do nuisance trapping as a way to get permission to hunt places, I will trap almost any critter

My dream hunt would be to go out once with my dad and see him get a whitetail. He passed away in 1981, but he started my passion for the outdoors as a youth. I would fish, trap and hunt with my Crossman 760 pellet gun. Nothing like stalking a rabbit and then shooting them in the eye.
I sure miss my father a lot, that is why I spend as much time with my son outdoors as possible. They didnt' have many whitetail when my father hunted, he would really dig hunting them.

I am mainly a stand hunter for deer, but do hunt coyotes, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, dove, waterfowl and groudnhogs from the ground.

Where are you from & where do you hunt whitetails? California, but originally from Vermont. Return there for the opener every fall.

Do you use a bow or firearm? What kind? Just rifle for whitetail. Marlin 30-30 Lever Action

Who taught you to hunt whitetails and when was your 1st whitetail hunt? My Dad. First time on a hunt, 7. First time actually hunting, 13 or so.

Are you a still hunter or a stand hunter? Stand hunter mostly.

What is your dream whitetail hunt? Alberta or Sasketchewan

- Success rate in Vermont averages 1 in 7 or so, and that's when I got my first deer, a 6-pointer, about 7 years after I started. Got a spike the next year, then a 4 pointer a few years later. Had a few more close calls since, but stuck out the last 4 or 5 seasons that I've been able to make it back and hunt. Biggest of the deer I shot was only 120 pounds. I did, however, find a recently shot deer in northern Maine that was a 12 point, about 250 pounds or so. Biggest deer I've seen in my life. Cut off the rack, and it still hangs on the wall at my parents, 25 years later.

I am from Pennsylvania (where the deer still manage to live after crappy management). I do all of my hunting in Perry County, where I live.

I use both a rifle and bow.

I prefer to still hunt most of the time, but will sit in the stand when drives are being put on by the neighbors.

My dream whitetail hunt would be in Saskatchewan, Canada. I prefer to do all of my hunting in cold weather and in miserable conditions (it develops discipline and more appreciation for nature).
