I planned a trip to FHL 3/7-3/9 and just read that they shut it down for a litle while, this was going to be my first hog hunt and was really excited. I want to know where can I go now that they shut down. I have those days off work already and my buddys and I are ready to rock. So if anyone can help us out on where we can go it will be much help. We have a pretty big rv and about five hunters. Is there any guides that won't burn a complete hole in the pocket and be able to help us out on this short notice. Thanks again

I don't know about guides, and Camp Roberts is still closed, but there some public land areas near Coalinga (Clear Creek, Laguna Mt.). Those BLM plots are pretty tough, and thin on pigs though. But that is an option.

A guide is going to cost around $500.
For about $400 you can fly roundtrip from San Diego or LAX to Kona.
For a non-res hunting license is $105 No tag fees, 2 pig per day plus sheep, goats and Rio Grande turkey.
In a group of 4-5 hunters split the 4x4 rental.
and tell the wives you're going to catalina island

Not Hawaii
God willing I'll be taking my wife and another couple to backpack/hunt.

And if you do what Porch suggested- you could camp at Liggett in your RV I believe. Unless fHL changes that too.

I was planning to go to FHL over the weekend of 3/14-3/16, but i guess that'sw not gonna happen. I was wondering where the best place in the Los Padres is to go. I would also like to know where there is to camp around there, lodging is preferable if it's not an arm & a leg. I sent FHL a permit application with my money order and with them shutting down the hunting, what's the likelihood of them refunding it to me & my hunting buddy is I ask them nicely?

I don't see how FHL can't do something for you, either in the form of a refund or credit on next year's application. I'm in the same boat, as far as finding an alternate location. We were planning FHL for the last weekend in March. For us, it's likely to be a last-minute decision.

I take it none of you guys are military or D.O.D. because there is some excellent hunting down here at Vandenberg. They do have a program where an active, active guard, or retired military can bring a guest on for three days at a time to hunt.

If you are interested in the details/phone numbers, shoot me an email: myfriendis410@msn.com

Me and a buddy went two weeks ago and couldn't hunt because we didn't have green rounds for our guns. 762.54r and 6.5 swedish
you can go to the FHL gate and tell them you want to hunt public land they give you a pass and you can go through the base but don't stop the street name starts with a c cant think of it right now but right after you leave the base into los padres look to your left theres alot of good land to hunt along th fhl border we saw two hogs in the thick stuff right on the other side of the fence and later a bunch of turkey it was raining so hard we decided to head home I think it could hjave been a decent trip theres a couple of camp sites a little ways down for 5 bucks clear creek we also been to but we almost slide of the cliff from the mud in 4x so we didnt make it to the lake (dont go when its raining) they might close it good luck
sorry about the punc
