i gave a coupon for wally world that i can get 20% off any one item so i went onto their websight and found that they have leupold and nikon binoculars so witch set should i get? the Nikon 10 x 42mm Monarch http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3904688 or the Leupold Wind River Cascades 10 X 42 mm http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7079383 or another one they carry? it is either a set of binos or a playstation 3 and the binos will get me out of the house.[/b]
I have 10 power which weren't up to the job when glassing 1.5 miles seeking Coues Deer I'd suggest at least 12 power.

The Nikons.

IMO.. 12 power is way too much for carry around binos - hand shake will negate any power advantage. If used soley off of a tripod, great, but 10 power is as far as I would go for handheld, even then it'll be shakey for some people.

I have the Nikon 8x42 and love 'em. Compact, lightweight and I think the best glass for the money. I also have Leupold Green Ring Mesa 10x50 and they are good for glassing from the truck, but too heavy and cumbersome to carry while still hunting.

I think thats something you need to try for yourself. I had always used 10x power and just a few months ago i bought some Nikon Action 16x binos since out here in the desert were glassing a LONG way and i dont have a single problem with shake. I did look through the 12x first and compared them and it was a more clear picture and shaking wasnt a problem. If you want more than 10x go and look through 12 or even 16x. These Nikons are clear and great and they were on sale for $110 but regular price isnt much more.

I would go with the Nikons as well. I have owned both and like the Nikons better.

I have the Leupolds 10X42 Wind River Cascades and I like them very much. They have a long eye relief and I use them all day wearing my glasses. I used them for 4 years now and I'm a very satisfied user. I agree that 12 power is too much for a set of carry binos.
