I'm pretty new to Elk hunting. I went to South Western Colorado last year for the first time.(Dolores, Cortez ,71 and 711) I went for the 3rd season. I know it's a crap shoot as far as the weather goes but what do you guys think would be the best season to hunt? I've heard the first is good because they are still pretty calm, but then again the weather might be too warm for them to be in that area. I don't plan to hunt deer so I can hunt any of the four seasons. I PM'd COHUNTER and agree with what he said, thanks, looking for some opinions. Thanks in advance.

Cda55, I've never hunted CO, but I am also putting in for the 3rd season.
By the way, welcome to JHP!

Like I said, I went last year for the 3rd season and saw quite a few legal bulls. Just never got the chance to bad one. Are you going anywhere in South-Western corner of CO? I just wanting to see if there is a preference that most people hunt. Thanks for the welcome and the reply. Cda55

We went out last year during the 2nd season. Saw one cow. We hunted up north west corner 12,23 and 24. Before we went out of town, Craig, to camp we saw alot of people with Elk on their trailors. The people I hunted with said they usually hunt the first rifle season and see lots of cows where we were at. I think we are planning on going out the first rifle season this year.
