Well, best of luck to you guys. There are many warnings and I gave you a full account of how our hunt was last year. If you don't understand that they are already lying to you with the comment that "... it is the law to have the pigs dressed" rather than a ploy to make themselves more money; then I wish the best of luck to you. Have fun - maybe post on your experiences after your trip for everyone's benefit.

Majkowskid,
Can you also e-mail me via JHO the result of your "free hog hunt". I am tentatively scheduled for this October but if the hunt conditions are NOT what it was when we hunted back in 2004, then I am NOT going. It is a 24 hr. drive one way and $500 worth of gasoline round trip to make this San Antonio trip or a $230 round trip air fare via Southwest Airlines Online ticket purchase which is NON-refundable. So it is not a backyard "free hunt" but it involves much, much time and eeeeeeexpensive gasoline or NON-refundable airline tickets. It has to be a worthwhile hog hunt experience for me to make the trip. NO restricting the hunter to the stands(blinds) ONLY, and I have to have good access to that 2,5000 acre surrounding ranch because that is where the creek bottom free roam Big Boars and varmints(coyotes) are. The coyotes are outside the 300 acre high fence(but on rare occasions the coyotes are able to dig under the high fence and get inside). If it is just sitting all day in a stand or a blind it will not be good enough for me to make the eeeeexpensive round trip from California. I would just save my money for a hopefully more satisfactory hunting in the Edmund Tom ranch 60 miles away from San Antonio. I have never been to the Edmund Tom ranch but the reviews seem to be very good at this Edmund Tom ranch. Hopefully they will live up to their advertising. As always, buyer beware. 'Nuff said.

larry, no problem whatsoever. it's 3 weeks away now. i'll be sure to let everyone know how the hunt went. i talked to paul, the ranch owner again about my concerns. he said that if i do not enjoy the hunt, he'll refund my gratuity, and even pay me for my gas home (50$ he said). so, all in all, i don't think i can go wrong :) i'm really not a picky hunter. as long as i kill something, and don't have to sit in a stand all day i'll be happy. i just enjoy being outdoors and stuff... but i'll give you a play by play recount of how it was.

"Back then the ranch was well stocked with wild hogs"

Isn't that an oxymoron?? No offense meant to the author

MikenSoCo,
Paul was stocking the high fence with trapped wild pigs sold and brought to the ranch by the area trappers. It is LEGAL in Texas to trap wild pigs and sell it. When we were there in 2004, an area trapper sold and brought in his game trailer, around 10 wild hogs. Some of those wild hogs were probably over 250 lbs. I do not know how much Paul pays for those but it must be getting expensive if the High Fence is running scarce on wild pigs. Paul also has a one way gate on his High Fence with bait. The wild hogs can get in, but it cannot get out. The last time I was there was in 2004 and my friends last hunted that ranch in 2005. I have no idea other than reading the posts in here what the current conditions are at that ranch. As always, it is buyer beware. Conditions can change. 'Nuff said.

KnifeNut,
Majkowskid went as scheduled last March 21, 2007(I believe) and when he got back from San Antonio, Texas he posted about his experience at the ranch. It is a big let down and not worth the trip or the gas money or the airline ticket. I paid a $50 deposit last Dec. 2006 to hold my "free hunt" for 12 months and I am NOT going anymore because it is not what it used to be when I went in Oct. 2004. 'Nuff said.

Sorry to say but that was the Smart move to make. I have seen this name come up on numerous discussion and on around 4-5 different forum in Texas. It turns out to be a scam to most people.
Just thought I would pass the word. Take a look: and search here:
