I've been hunting, all kinds of animals, for like 30 years now, and wild pigs for only the last 5 years or so. During that time, I probably have "incidentally" taken more frogs than I have purposely take wild pigs. I'm WAY more successful deer hunting. So why is it that I am ALWAYS thinking pigs? What is the deal? Is every pig hunter as obsessed as I am? Last year I could have gone up north and easily taken a deer, but instead, I would rather go strike-out on some lonely public land pig.

Some people get that way, I like to call it the fever. I have one client who has the fever something awful. He will call me on super short notice and tell me he just has to kill a hog. I usually tell him I'm busy, he continues to badger me until I give in. But I never give in until he ups the ante to around a grand. He's one of my best customers and he rarely gets a hog. I love it!

BLASTMASTER,

I definitely share that obsession. Something about those critters just get to you. I think about them all the time coming down some oak-strewn California hillside and that sound they make in a herd of 10 or more of them trotting around. Then there's the quest for finding that one with the wildest shaggy coat and a nice set of tusks if you haven't taken one like that yet. Not to mention how great they taste in a red wine sauce! Now I'm starting to collect wild boar memorabilia. Somebody help me, I got the fever!

Blastmaster,

I'm right there with ya. I've been hog wild since I came out to CA seven years ago, and it's done nothing but get worse. But, the way I see it, there are worse addictions.

Addiction... plain and simple. I just can't stop.

I think the people here at work are organizing an intervention or something. (must have something to do with the hog photos in my cube)

Self taught.. and on my 16th month, with no sucess. Getting there the hard wayslow but sure.

It is comforting to know there are other people just as messed up.

So...I'm no diferrent than a drug dealer when I take my daughter out to Camp Roberts in a couple weeks. Poor girl hasn't got a chance against the alure of a chewed-up hillside!

I reckon pigs get on the brain because ya don't have to go into "shutdown" mode like ya do with deer and bear and all the others. A few days or a couple of weeks and it's over.

What with pig season being 365 days a year there's no reason not to think about 'em all the time..... ya just jump in the vehicle and go pig hunting, simple as that. Day or night, whenever......

my 2 cents......

'cause pigs are the best, and you can hunt them all year round.
Fellow hog addict,
Mark
ps-- Do they have 12 step programs for pig hunting?

After a hunt, I see hogs running in my sleep. I am always startled awake and can never find my rifle. Damn nightmares.
