A few weeks back I was walking my dog out in the country and came upon a nice Blacktail shed. It was the first I had ever found. Since then I can't stop thinking bout finding more. So last weekend I went out and found 4 that were at least a year old. I didn't find any fresh sheds. I'm heading out again this weekend. I can't figure out what makes it so exiting but it just is.

Too late. Good luck getting over that addiction.

The way it sounds, your avatar is pretty fitting.

That's what all antler addicts look and feel like - specially new ones.

I'd say that for myself, shed hunting, although I have not yet found my first sheds is addicting. I'm going to speak for myself and say that is helps fight off cabin fever here in VT. I look forward to the weekends when my brother and I can go out on land we hunt and find new runs, beds, animal activity and new places we might hunt in the upcoming seasons. Finding a shed old or new is icing on the cake for me. It also sheds light on what deer made it through the season, and what they were holding on to and how they might grow larger next year.

I hear ya on the addiction to shed hunting.....even when i have a nice buck under my bowstand i can't help but think about where he might drop his sheds the following spring. It's great exercise and an awesome scouting tool!

O.K. , ask and ye shall receive. The shed on the far left is the first one I ever found. It was buried except for about 4" on the knobby end. I thought it was the end of a stick. A tractor had plowed dirt over it and almost buried it entirely. I think it had been covered for a year, so it didn't weather like if it had been exposed. The others were found last weekend. It has rained here for the past 3 days but I'm going out tomorrow and look for more.

Shed hunting is for those who walk the game trails more than the people trails.
and for those who walk the woods alone or with a dog.
and for those addicted to bone!

Yeah, I hear ya Pred. it's a feeling that is so rewarding when you walk and walk and finally fine that piece of bone you have been looking for. Then you act like a you won a million dollar lottery. At least it is for me, I get pretty jacked up about thoes sheds.

I about broke a leg crossing a canyon to pick up a 4 point muley shed in MT last fall. In man's first days, that bone had to have been used as currency. It's like finding a gold nugget! :)

I hear ya', when I'm hunting for quail or even moving through the forest during turkey season my head is scanning the ground for sheds.
