My brother was telling me that the wild chickens are everywhere now.
Are they still protected ?

Were they *ever* protected? Wild chickens are actually a nuisance, especially in the neighborhoods...I try to kill them whenever I can, but my damn pump-action pellet pistol just can't do the trick!

Wild turkey, on the other hand, are still protected on Oahu.

Y'know, I could never understand why, as kids, we were taught that chickens say "cock-a-doodle-doo." They don't. Instead, they go "er-er-erer-errrrr!"

They've been protected because they are not just feral chickens, but they are Junglefowl that the early Hawaiians introduced. I think they are no longer rare.

Actual jungle fowl are quite rare with 98% (?) of the chickens being hybrids with introduced domestic breeds.
