I use the 2 condcutor (mono) plugs and the three conductor (stereo) jacks on my cameras. Two of the connections get shorted together when you plug it in, so I connect the shutter and the focus wires to these. Since the two don't get shorted together unless the plus is in I can still use the camera for normal picture taking. To make the connector fit inside the camera i cut off the tripod mount with my dremel tool and put the jack there ( with a little help from JB Weld). If you take your time and do a neat job you can't even tell that camera has been modified.

Yes, the one coming out the side will short to the closest one to it on the bottom. Connect the shutter control wire to one and the focus wire to the other.
